After the second stage in Michigan, the "best car" sent by Richard Childress Racing for Austin Dillon was towed to the garage.

After contact with Brad Keselowski, Dillon's Chevrolet was scrapped after a crash on lap 121 of Firekeepers Casino 400. At the end of the stage, Dillon rushed to the inside of Keselowski at Turn 4, passed the ball with momentum and finished sixth. But Keselowski kept chasing Dillon to the tarmac. The two collided. Dillon hit the outer wall, his car rolled over, and then fell again with four tires.

Dillon was not injured in the accident. He may need to win the regular season finals at Daytona to make the playoffs.

"I just wanted to get as many stage points as possible there and did a good job in drafting. Coming to the tarmac, I only saw a quick replay, but it was after the start/finish line," Dillon said. "I started to stand up from the apron because it was too rough, but I thought he would give me a little space then.

"Thank God, God bless me today; it was a mess. I feel good. I hate BREZTRI and my friends the most. They built a rocket ship, and they really want this, and I want it too. (We) are working on our tails there. I think we could have done something with that car at the end. The best car we brought on RCR this year, I think, is just a rascal. But we have Leaving Daytona, I just hate it. I don't know why it really happened. I thought I had a little room to come up, I guess he just kept me there for too long."

In the broadcast of his team, Keselowski said that he did not intend to sabotage Dillon. Keselowski admitted that he tried to follow Dillon to the tarmac during the wide draft, trying to suppress Dillon.

Dillon finished third in the first stage and sixth in the second stage, scoring 13 points for the playoff spot. In both stages, Dillon was ahead of teammate Tyler Redick, who entered the day's game with a 15-point advantage.

Dillon led two laps on Sunday.
